Call for Papers for International Conference

Social Security and Labour Mobility in the Enlarged

EU

Conference venue: Fudan University, Shanghai
Date:September 14-15, 2007
Programme Committee: Prof. Ding Chun and Prof. Jean-Claude Berthelemy
Local Organizers:Center for European Studies, Fudan University
Conference language: English

Labour market and social policies are today hot topics both in the EU and in China, as the free movement of labour is one of the pillars of the EU integration and is also becoming a major trend in China. In the EU, labour mobility is however not complete, due to domestic labour market regulations and incomplete social policy coordination. In China, there are also constraints on labour mobility. To promote a better understanding of the corresponding policy debates, the Centre for European Studies of Fudan University and University Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne propose to hold an international conference, within the framework of ESCP (EU-China European Studies Centres Programme), on ‘Social Security and Labour Mobility in the Enlarged EU’ in Fudan University, Shanghai, China, from September 14 to September 15, 2007.
The conference aims to provide an international forum for academics and practitioners to exchange views on the EU experience, both in terms of across-EU Member States comparisons and analysis of EU coordination policies, and to compare this European experience with the Chinese one. Participants are expected to elaborate on issues related to labour market and social policies broadly defined. Among other subjects, the organizers expect to receive proposals on the following topics:

  • Domestic labour market policies
  • Labour market integration (including migration)
  • Social security policies
  • Pensions
  • Healthcare

Please submit your abstracts or willingness via email by July 15th 2007. Submissions can be made to Prof. Ding Chun of Fudan University (Chinese side), or Prof. Jean-Claude Berthelemy of University Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne (European side). Contact details are as below. In your submission, please indicate clearly your name, affiliation and contact details. The working language of the conference will be English. We will communicate the acceptance to the authors by late July.
