The latest round of EU-enlargement proves to be a milestone in European integration. It has drawn much attention from both the public and the scholars . Due to the disparities between the new and old member states, and the consequent problems, the last round of enlargement has proved to be controversial as well. To promote a better understanding of the objectives and impact of EU-enlargement, the Centre for European Studies of Fudan University and University of Duisburg-Essen propose to hold an international conference , within the framework of ESCP(http://www.escp.com.cn/) , on ‘EU-Enlargement, Structural Adjustment, and Transition' in Fudan University, Shanghai, China, from November 3 to November 4, 2006.
The conference aims to provide an international forum for academics and practitioners to exchange views on the impact of the EU-enlargement . Participants are expected to elaborate on issues related to enlargement, structure adjustment and transition in the EU , and to asses the implications for EU development and especially for EU-China relationship. F our sessions are planned. P ossible topics of the conference are as follows:
Agriculture, Industry, Service Sector: Competit ion; Structural Adjustment ; Transition (3 papers)
Labour Markets: Imm igration; Employment ; Wages (3 papers)
Regions: Convergence; Disparities ; Subsidies (3 papers)
EU and the World: Regionali zation; Globalization ; EU-China (3 papers)
Please submit your abstracts via email by September 15 st , 2006 . Submissions can be made to Prof. Bingran Dai or Chun Ding of Fudan University (Chinese side), or Prof. Dr. Guenter Heiduk of University of Duisburg-Essen (European side) . Contact details are as below. In your submission, please indicate clearly your name, affiliation and contact details. The working language of the conference will be English. We will communicate the acceptance to the authors by late September. The organi z ing committee will , according to the ESCP PMO rules and regulations, provide funds for the invited European and non-Shanghai Chinese speakers to cover tra vel expenses, accommodation and meals .

Ambassador Forum in Fudan University: Fudan Ambassador Forum was held in Yifu building, Fudan University on June 16, 2006. Ambassador of France to China , Mr. Philippe GUELLUY was invited to make a speech on EU CFSP with the company of General Consul and Education Consul of France in Shanghai . Prof. Gui Yonghao Vice President of Fudan University, Prof. Mei Zhaorong the Ambassador Forum Chair of Fudan, Prof. Shen Dingli Executive Deputy Dean of Institute of International Studies of Fudan University, and Prof. Ding Chun Executive Vice Director of Center for European Studies of Fudan University, met the French guests before the ambassador delivered the speech..
Mr. Philippe GUELLUY' speech was entitled “EU's CFSP and Its Relations with NATO”. During his one-and-a-half-hours speech, the ambassador reviewed the history of EU's security policy, and voiced his opinions on the current situation of EU's CFSP. His incisive analysis and humorous remarks earned warm applause from the audience. After the lecture, Mr. Ambassador answered some questions by students, and held heated discussions with them.
Fudan Ambassador Forum is co-organized by Center for European Studies and Institute of International Studies of Fudan University. The Forum is chaired by Prof. Mei Zhaorong and organized by Prof. Ding Chun. Political figures as well as scholars are invited to address Fudan students on hot issues of the world affairs on a regular basis. Since its inception in 2004, the Forum has delivered a quite number of high-level lectures. The feedbacks are extremely positive. |
Ambassador Forum in Fudan University:
On 7 April, 2006 , Fudan Ambassador Forum was held in Yifu Science and Technology Building , Fudan University . The forum was organized by the Center for European Studies, Fudan University , presided by Prof. Mei Zhaorong, former ambassador of China to Germany . Former Mayor of Mannheim in Germany , Doctor Norbert Egger from Germany made a speech entitled “The fiscal relations between federal, lander and local governments and the social security system in Germany ”. Many scholars, teachers and students took parts in the forum, and discussed warmly with the speakers. The forum got a very positive feedback from all sides. PPT download |

International Conference on European Financial Integration and China

The development of financial integration in Europe is a towering event of modern economic history. The process of European financial integration with its climax of the birth of the Euro represents a fundamental change to the landscape of the world economy. To promote a better understanding of the process and its worldwide repercussions, the Centre for European Studies of Fudan University and Durham Business School propose to hold an international conference on European Financial Integration and China , to be held in Fudan University , Shanghai , China , on 12-13 May 2006.
The conference aims to provide an international forum to academics and practitioners to exchange views on challenges of and lessons from European Financial Integration and their implications for Asia in general and China in particular. Possible topics may include:
New Development of Financial Markets in Europe
Euro as an International Currency
Policy Coordination during the Process of Economic and Financial Integration
Financial globalisation and International Financial Architecture
Exchange Rate Arrangements in the Age of Financial Globalisation
European Financial Integration: Lessons for Asia
The Role of China in Asian Monetary Cooperation
Chinese Exchange Rate Policy in Transition
Asian Exchange Rate Policy Cooperation
The topics are to be defined broadly. The organisers are open to suggestions of any other titles that are in broad agreement with the aim of the conference.
Please submit your abstracts via email by 28 February 2006. Submissions can be made to Dr Zhichao Zhang of Durham University or Prof. Jikang Zhang of Fudan University . Contact details are in below. In your submission, please indicate clearly your name, affiliation and contact details. The working language of the conference will be English. We will communicate the acceptance to the authors by early March. The organising committee will provide accommodation and meals for the purpose of the conference. We will endeavour to help speakers secure funding for attending the conference from their institutions or funding bodies. In limited cases, the organisers may consider requests for providing some financial assistance towards the costs of invited speakers' attendance.

Ambassador
Forum in Fudan University: On
May, 17th, 2005, Dr. Volker Stanzel, Germany's Ambassador to China,
made a speech on Germany's foreign policies and
the its relations with China during his visit
to Fudan University. XU Zhong, Vice President of Fudan
University, met Dr. Stanzel shortly before the Ambassador
spoke to students of Fudan University. Prof.
MEI Zhaorong hosted Dr. Stanzel's
speech.
The speech is the first of its kind Stanzel gave
universities in Shanghai since he
took the helm of the German Embassy in Beijing last
year. Around 70 teachers and students from different
schools and departments heard the speech and discussed with
the Ambassador issues of their interest.
Prof. DAI Bingran, Honorary Director of
the Center for European Studies, and Prof. DING Chun, Deputy Director
of the Center, also attended the meeting.

Forum in Fudan University: On Tuesday April
19th,2005,Prof. AN Huihou, China's former Ambassador to Egypt,
delivered a speech on the US Middle East
policy and its consequences on the
Middle East politics. Prof. LI
Fenglin, who once served as China's Ambassador to
Russia, devoted his talk entirely to Sino-Russian relations. Prof.
Li is now the President of Euro-Asian Institute of the Development
Research Center of the State Council (DRC), PRC. Prof.
MEI Zhaorong, China's former Ambassador to
Germany and former President of CPIFA, hosted the

European
Economic Forum:
On April 12th, 2005, Dr.Prof. Picavet, Director
of the Accounting Department and Specialist in International
Economics of EDHEC Business School, delivered a speech
on European integration from economic and social
prospectives. The meeting was held in the No. 2 meeting
room of the School of Economics. Vice Director of
the Center for European Studies HU Ronghua presided over
the discussion.

Ambassador
Forum in Fudan University: On March 25, 2005,
Former Attorney General of Germany, Ms. Herta Daubler-Gmelin
delivered a speech entitled ‘Germany-Europe-China: Equal Partners
for Building a World Order of Justice’ in the Multi-functional
Hall of Yi-fu Building, Fudan University. YAN Shuang, Vice
President of Fudan University, met Ms Herta Daubler-Gmelin
and gave her a welcome banquet afterwards.
During
the speech, Ms. Herta Daubler-Gmelin expressed her views
on the protection of human rights and on other aspects of
internatioal relations. She also elaborated on the political
dialogue between Germany and China, and hot issues such
as unilateral policies of Bush Administration,
The ‘Ambassador Forum in Fudan University’
is co-sponsored by the Institute of International Studies
and Center for European Studies of Fudan University. Prof.
DAI Bingran, Honorary director of the Center, Prof. CHEN
Zhimin, HU Ronghua and DING Chun, Vice Directors of the
Center, attended the Forum. Around one hundred audience,
mainly teachers and students from different departments
of Fudan University, crowded the lecture hall and actively
involved themselves in the activity.

Forum
on European economy:
From
March 21 to 23, Prof. Lionel Martellini, Academic
Director of the Centre for Risks and Assets Management
Studies in EDHEC Business School of France, and doctor Daphne
Sfeir, associate professor of the same school, gave
a series of lectures on modern investment
analysis in No. 1 Meeting Room of School of Economics
in Fudan University. The meetings were hosted by
Professor Zhang Jikang, Director of the Center for
European Studies. During the meetings, doctor Martellini and
Sfeir had heated discussions about theories and techniques
of modern investment with students. |
On
Dec 29th,2004, at the invitation of "Ambassador
Forum" co-sponsored by Institute for
International Studies and CES, Prof. Mei Zhaorong, Chairman
of Academic Steering Committee of CES and a famous
diplomat, delivered a speech entitled "European
Integration: Achievements, Challenges and Some Reflections on China-EU
Relationship" in old Yifu Building.
Prof. Mei , who
now holds the Ambassador Forum Chair of Fudan
University, once served as the Director
of Western Europe.
Department in Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Plenipotentiary
of China to the
Federal Republic of Germany,
and the Chairman and Party Secretary of China Diplomatic Academy
at different stages during his long and successful
diplomatic career. During the two-hour long speech,
he shared his own experiences as the
Special Envoy of Chinese government to
five European countries
with teachers and students from Fudan University,
as he had already done in Peking University
and Xi'an Jiaotong University. His speech, as
lively and interesting as it is informative, won
warm applauses from the lecture attendants.
Prof. Mei's speech was
hosted by Ding Chun, deputy director of CES. Prof.
Shen Dingli, Deputy Dean of Institute for International
Studies, Prof. Dai Bingran, Honorary Director
of CES and Prof. Chen Zhimin, Deputy Director
of CES also attended the forum.

Forum
on European economy: On Nov 25th, doctor Kjetil
Bjorvatn, associate professor of Norwegian School of Economics
and Management, delivered a special speech on the actuality
and trend of direct investment in classroom 4501. In the
meeting hosted by Maria, teacher of Nordic Center,
doctor Bjorvatn had heated discussion about actuality and
problems of direct investment in China with students.

Forum
on European economy: On Nov 23th, doctor Stig
Tenold, associate professor of Norwegian School of Economics
and Management, delivered a speech titled“possibility
of Asia-crisis style meltdown in Chinese Economy”in
School of Economics of Fudan University. In the meeting hosted
by prof. Zhang Jikang, doctor Tenold analyzed and discussed
his current homonymous research program with teachers and
students of School of Economics from the view of China.

doctor in National University of Singapore, delivered
a special speech titled "The Anglo-Saxon
Model of capitalism: Implications on Capital Market and
Corporate Governance".
