STATUTE
OF THE CHINESE SOCIETY FOR EU STUDIES
1.
Objectives:
The
Chinese Society for EU Studies (CSEUS) is a national academic
organization, devoted to the studies of the European Union
and European integration. The Society aims at promoting
and coordinating EU studies in China, organizing and supporting
academic exchanges and other activities in the related fields,
and cultivating and developing mutual understanding and
friendly cooperation between China and the European Union
and its Member States, in the service of the country’s modernization,
and for the cause of world peace.
2.
Membership:
Anyone
engaged in teaching or researching on EU studies, who agrees
to this Statute and sends in an application with the support
of a Member, or of the recommendation of the institution
to which he belongs, may be accepted as a Member, when approved
by the Board of Standing Directors.
3.
Rights and Obligations of Membership:
A
Member of the Society shall:
(a)observe
this Statute, carry out the resolutions of the Society,
and take part in the activities organized by the Society;
(b)implement
the Society’s working programmes and fulfill tasks assigned
by the Society;
(c)have
the right to elect and to be elected;
(d)put
forward suggestions and criticisms concerning the management
of the Society;
(e)pay
the membership fee.
4.
Activities:
Activities of the Society may include:
(a)organizing
academic symposia, lecture, seminars, and discussions;
(b)presiding
over reviews or evaluations of studies, papers, surveys,
translation works and other research results, and recommending
them for publication;
(c)organizing
and coordinating research efforts into research projects
of common interest or of universal significance;
(d)editing
and publishing a journal of the Society, and other publications;
(e)advancing
reports and studies for reference to institutions concerned,
and accepting public and private consultations on related
matters;
(f)organizing
academic exchanges and other activities with foreign institutions.
5.
Organization and Institutions:
(a)The
Assembly of Members shall elect, after consultation, a number
of Directors to form a Council of Directors as the governing
organ of the Society. The Council shall have a term of office
of 3 years; the Directors may be re-elected.
(b)The
Directors shall elect, in the Council, a Chairman, 1 or
2 Vice-Chairmen, and a few Standing Directors, to form a
Board of Standing Directors, in charge of the management
of the Society.
(c)The
Council of Directors may decide to invite a renown personality
to be its Honourable Chairman, and to appoint a few Advisors.
(d)The
Society resides in the Institute of World Economy, Fudan
University, Shanghai.
6.
Revenue:
The
Society may, for the purpose of providing for its management,
research programmes, and other activities, seek and accept
grants and contributions from other institutions or individuals,
if it deems appropriate.
7.
Final Provision:
The
adoption and the amendment of this Statute are subject to
the discussion and approval of the Assembly of Members.
