Brief Introduction--
The
Chinese Society for EU Studies (CSEUS) is a national academic
association devoted specifically to the studies of the European
Union and European integration. It was first founded on
30 November 1984 under the name of the Chinese Society for
EC Studies (CSECS). The CSEUS resides in Fudan University,and
is a member organization of the Chinese National Association
for European Studies.
The
CSEUS sets to promote and develop the studies of the EU
and European integration in China and to cultivate and strengthen
the mutual understanding and friendly relations between
the Chinese people and the peoples of the EU member states,
with the aims to contribute to the modernization of the
country and to the cause of world peace.
The
CSEUS is open to the participation of all those who are
actively engaged in or associated with, or have an interest
in, the studies of the EU and European integration. Its
present members come from higher educational institutions,
research institutes, public services and departments, and
enterprises and firms. Its research spheres encompass economics,
political sciences, law, history, international relations,
social affairs, and cultural studies.
The
CSEUS’ functions cover:
1.
coordinating
and organizing research projects and teaching programmes
on subjects of current or future interests;
2.
organizing
and sponsoring conferences, symposia and seminars on related
topics;
3.
carrying
out academic exchange and cooperation programmes with institutions,
organizations and individuals both at home and abroad;
4.
editing
and publishing journals, specialized works and other publications;
and
5.
accepting
consultations and carrying out other tasks.
Its
regular activities include: sponsoring and organizing the
biyearly international symposium on the EU and the yearly
seminar; administering grants to research projects through
a Research Fund; recommending candidates for training and
studying abroad, and receiving academic visits; coordinating
the management and cooperation among the European Documentation
Centres in the country; and editing and publishing its journal—EUROPEAN
INTEGRATION STUDIES.
Since 1985, the CSEUS has, by implementing its yearly Working
Programmes, organized and supported a number of research
projects and other academic activities, contributing greatly
to the development of EU studies in China.
From
its very beginning, the CSEUS has established relations
with the EU institutions, receiving supports of various
kinds from the Commission, and carrying out several cooperation
programmes. It has been the member organization representing
China in the ECSA-World since its inception in 1992, taking
an active part in its activities and having developed good
relations with other fraternal organizations within the
framework. It has, meanwhile, established and maintained
good relations with a number of other international organizations,
foreign institutions and individuals, too.
The
governing body of the CSEUS is its Council of Directors,
elected by the plenary assembly of its members. Chairman,
Vice Chairmen and Secretary-Generals appointed by the Council
form a Board responsible for its daily management. The present
Chairman is Prof. WU Yikang, Vice Chairmen Prof. DAI Bingran
and Prof. WU Xian, Secretary-General Prof. DAI Bingran,
Deputy Secretary-Generals Prof. ZHANG Jianxiong and Prof.
HU Ronghua.
